Sister Marguerite McGilly, S.C.

Sister Marguerite McGilly, S.C., who taught at Immaculate Conception School on Staten Island for 11 years, died May 5 at Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. She was 82.

Sister Marguerite was at Immaculate Conception, 1993-2004. She earlier taught at St. Peter’s, Staten Island, 1989-1993; St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, Manhattan, 1984-1989; Resurrection, Rye, 1977-1979; St. Mary of the Snow, Saugerties, 1975-1977; Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 1972-1973; and St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Kisco, 1968-1975.

She served at New York Foundling, Manhattan, 1968, and as children’s supervisor at Holy Name Nursery, Manhattan, 1962.

Born in Manhattan, she was a graduate of Cathedral High School and entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1958 and professed final vows in 1966. She held a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle.

Burial was May 8 in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. A Memorial Mass will be offered at a later date.
