Sister Maria Rosa Deiso, O.S.U.

Sister Maria Rosa Deiso, O.S.U., who taught Spanish at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula in the Bronx for more than 35 years, died April 10 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson.

At the Academy, she organized International Night, which is still celebrated annually. She also accompanied students to cultural events in the New York area and on many European trips.

Sister Maria Rosa also taught at St. Jerome’s School and St. Angela Merici, both in the Bronx.

Born and raised in Mount Vernon, she entered the Ursuline Sisters in Beacon in 1949 and professed vows in 1952. She earned a master’s degree in Spanish from Fordham University.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Ballato.

A private burial was planned at Gate of Heaven in Hawthorne. A memorial Mass was to be offered later.
