Sister Marion Savadel, S.C., a retired teacher at St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School on Staten Island, died July 29 in Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers. She was 77. She served at the Staten Island high school from 1967 until her retirement in 2006. She first taught business classes, then became chairman of the business department. She became a library assistant in 1996. She taught business classes at St. Gabriel's High School, New Rochelle, 1965-1967, and taught at Epiphany School in Manhattan, 1956-1965. She was formerly known as Sister Marion Josepha. Born on Staten Island, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1953 and professed final vows in 1961. She held a bachelor's degree in math from the College of Mount St. Vincent and a master's in business administration from New York University. She is survived by two brothers, Joseph and Richard, and a sister, Eleanor Widmayer. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 1 at Mary the Queen Convent, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers.
