Sister Mary Angelica Hewson, R.D.C.

Sister Mary Angelica Hewson, R.D.C., who taught Latin at the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel in White Plains for 34 years, died July 30 at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. She was 84.

She taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel from 1947 until 1981.

From 1982 to 1986, she was a social worker at Kings Harbor Care Center in the Bronx, where she was director of social services. She served there until her retirement.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1944 and professed final vows in 1950.

She held a bachelor’s degree from Good Counsel College and two master’s degrees—in guidance from Seton Hall University and in social work from Columbia University.

She is survived by her sisters, Jane McIntyre and Ruth Farabaugh. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 5 in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in White Plains.
