Sister Mary Ella Morrison, O.P., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Hope who taught at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie for seven years, died Sept. 1. She was 76.

Sister Mary Ella was at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1978-1985. She taught at St. Ursula School, Mount Vernon, 1977; Mount St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, 1972-1976; and Sacred Heart School, Newburgh, 1966-1969.

She also served in New Jersey, Connecticut and West Virginia.

Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1962 and professed final vows in 1969.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Mount St. Mary College, Newburgh, and a master’s in religious studies from Providence College. She also received a certificate in preaching from the Aquinas Summer Institute, St. Louis.

Her sister, Margaret, survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 5 in St. Mary’s Church, Gloucester City, N.J. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Swedesboro, N.J.
