Sister Mary Ellen Butler, S.C., the former administrator of Resurrection Academy in Rye, died May 11 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla. She was 69. She was administrator of Resurrection from 1982 to 1988, and a teacher and administrative assistant there, 1974-1982. At the time of her death, she was coordinator of pastoral services for Sisters of Charity retirement houses, a post she had held for 11 years. Before that she was regional coordinator at the Sisters of Charity Center, the Bronx, 1988-1995. She was dean of students at St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, Staten Island, 1972-1974, and a teacher in Manhattan at Holy Cross Academy, 1966-1972; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1962-1966; and St. Joseph Academy, 1962. Born in Brooklyn, she was formerly known as Sister Marian Edmund. She entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1959 and professed final vows in 1967. She earned a bachelor's degree at the College of Mount St. Vincent and a master's from Fordham University, both in the Bronx. Surviving is a sister, Sister Marguerite Butler, D.C., of Emmitsburg, Md. A Funeral Mass was offered May 15 in Immaculate Conception Chapel at Mount St. Vincent, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers.
