Sister Mary Eymard Corcoran, P.V.M.I.

Sister Mary Eymard Corcoran, P.V.M.I., a former mother general of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, died Sept. 10 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Warwick. She was 98. She was mother general, based at Marycrest in Monroe, from 1951 to 1963. She was the first general superior of the order after the retirement of the founder, Mother Mary Teresa Tallon. Sister Mary Eymard also served at Marycrest as assistant mother general, 1963-1969; general secretary, 1978-1987; and in clerical and secretarial positions, 1945-1951. She did family visitations in the Albany Diocese, 1934-1945, and in West Haven, Conn., 1972-1978. She was local superior of the Chicago convent, 1969-1972, and assistant superior of the Scranton, Pa., convent, 1987-1988, when she retired to Marycrest. Born in County Longford, Ireland, she entered the Parish Visitors in 1930 and professed final vows in 1936. A Funeral Mass was offered on Sept. 13 at Immaculate Conception Chapel at Marycrest, with burial in Our Lady of the Assumption Cemetery there.
