Sister Mary Flavia Widmeier, S.H.C.J.

Sister Mary Flavia Widmeier, S.H.C.J., who taught in New York and Pennsylvania and also served in Nigeria, died June 9 at Holy Child Center in Rosemont, Pa. She was 94.

She taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Manhattan, 1951-1962. She assisted at the Holy Child Convent in Rye, 1981-1982.

She served for 25 years in the Philadelphia area as a teacher and school secretary, and on the staff of Holy Child Center, the residence for many elderly and infirm sisters of the congregation.

In Nigeria she trained young women preparing to be teachers, and also served as sacristan, 1952-1962 and 1984-1985.

Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1934 and professed final vows in 1942. She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Rosemont College.

She is survived by her sister, Sister Maureen Widmeier, S.H.C.J.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated June 25 in the New Sharon Chapel in Rosemont. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, Pa.
