Sister Mary Gabriel Coughlin, R.C.D.

Sister Mary Gabriel Coughlin, R.C.D., who held leadership positions in her congregation and served in the archdiocese, died Nov. 30 at Tolstoy Nursing Home in Valley Cottage. She was 92.

She served as congregational treasurer and secretary, local superior, retirement director, coordinator of religious education and trainer of catechists.

She served at Marydell Convent and Marydell Camp in Nyack; Ave Maria House in the Bronx; St. Vito’s parish, Mamaroneck; St. Ursula’s, Mount Vernon; Sacred Heart parish and Ramapo Manor, both in Suffern; and Our Lady of Peace Chapel at the Rockland Psychiatric Center. She also ministered at St. Ann’s parish during her years serving in the Nyack area and served in Florida and New Hampshire.

Born in Bayonne, N.J., she entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine in 1941 and professed final vows in 1946. She held a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and a master’s in education from Manhattan College. Her brothers, Vincent and Michael, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 4 at Marydell Convent, Upper Nyack. Burial was at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
