Sister Mary Gabriel Jones, O.P., died July 10 at Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx. She was 85.
Born in Manhattan, Sister Mary Gabriel entered the Dominican Sisters of Amityville in 1957, and professed final vows in 1962. She served as a teacher and nurse’s aide in Brooklyn, Queens and Suffolk County before leaving the Amityville Dominicans in 1995.
Sister Mary Gabriel discerned a vocation to contemplative life, taking her solemn vows in 1999 with the Dominican Nuns of Corpus Christi Monastery to serve in a prayer ministry.
A Funeral Mass was offered July 13 at Corpus Christi Monastery, where burial took place.
