Sister Mary Gallagher, R.S.M.

Sister Mary Gallagher, R.S.M., who was an educator in the archdiocese, died March 31 in the Bronx. She was 71.

She taught math at Our Lady of Victory in Dobbs Ferry, 1965-1967, and was a member of the staff there, 2001; St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx, 1967-1973; St. Gabriel’s in New Rochelle, 1973-1983. She was assistant principal at St. Catharine Academy, 1983-1987; and Good Shepherd in Manhattan, 1999-2000.

She served at St. Joseph’s Seminary as assistant to the procurator, 1987-1988. She served as a member of the Sisters of Mercy Leadership Team, 1989-1992. She was office manager at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1992-1998.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1960 and professed final vows in 1968. She held a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Mercy College and a master’s in mathematics from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 5 at Marian Woods in Hartsdale, burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
