Sister Mary Gallagher, S.C., who taught at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, died April 7 at her home in New Rochelle. She was 72.

She taught religion and English at Spellman, 1966-1978. She also served in two parishes, as the director of religious education at St. Augustine parish in Larchmont, 1987-1999, and as office manager at St. Paul the Apostle parish in Yonkers since August.

She served as co-director of the Sisters of Charity Center in the Bronx from 1983 to 1987. She also worked as a research assistant at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, 1981-1983.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1962 and professed final vows in 1970. She held a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University and a master’s in higher education from the Teachers College at Columbia University.

A sister, Sister Eileen Gallagher, S.C., survives her. A Funeral Mass was offered April 11 at Immaculate Conception Chapel at Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
