Sister Mary Hilary Scott, F.M.S.C.

Sister Mary Hilary Scott, F.M.S.C., who served in Montessori programs in the archdiocese, died March 30 at Mount St. Francis in Peekskill. She was 79. She began the Montessori program in St. Matthew's parish in Hastings-on-Hudson in 1970 and remained there until 1976, when she joined the Montessori program at Immaculate Conception parish in Irvington. She served there until 1993. Earlier, she was an elementary school teacher in the archdiocese at St. Patrick's School, Yorktown Heights, 1962-1964; St. Patrick's, Verplanck, 1964-1966; and Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring, 1966-1970. In her early years after profession she was a group mother for the baby girls in St. Joseph's Home in Peekskill. She also taught in elementary schools in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania. Born in North Bergen, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1946 and professed final vows in 1953. A Funeral Mass was offered April 2 at Mount St. Francis, with burial in the sisters' cemetery there.
