Sister Mary Hourigan, O.P.

Sister Mary Hourigan, O.P., who taught at archdiocesan schools for nine years, died Oct. 11 in Siena Hall of the Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 87.

Sister Mary taught at St. Vito’s School, Mamaroneck, 1967-1970; and St. Brendan School, the Bronx, 1954-1960. She also served in Schenectady, Maryland and Montana before retiring to Dominican Convent in 2013.
Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1952 and professed final vows in 1959.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University, the Bronx, and a master’s from Salisbury State College, Salisbury, Md.
Her sister, Bridget, survives her.

Funeral arrangements were private. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
