Sister Mary Judith Henchey, R.D.C.

Sister Mary Judith Henchey, R.D.C., who served as principal of St. John the Evangelist School in Mahopac for 34 years, died Dec. 12. She was 87.

Sister Mary Judith was principal at St. John the Evangelist, 1967-2001. She previously taught at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph School, Croton Falls.

After retiring as principal, she volunteered in the food pantry at St. John the Evangelist.

Born in Woburn, Mass, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1953 and professed final vows in 1961.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Good Counsel College, White Plains, and a master’s in school administration from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Conn.

Her brother, Father Joseph Henchey, C.S.S., survives her.
A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 19 in Chapel of the Divine Compassion, White Plains. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
