Sister Mary Noella Kelly, R.S.M.

Sister Mary Noella Kelly, R.S.M., an elementary school teacher in the archdiocese, died Jan. 29. She was 85.

   She taught at Commander Shea School in East Harlem, 1943-1946 and 1950-1952, and at its sister school, St. Cecilia, 1952-1953, 1963-1970 and 1977-1985; and at Sacred Heart, the Bronx, 1946-1947, 1949-1950, 1961-1963 and 1970-1972.

   She also taught at St. Michael’s, Staten Island, 1947-1948; St. Catherine of Genoa, Manhattan, 1955-1961; St. Margaret Mary, the Bronx, 1973-1974, and Transfiguration, Tarrytown, 1975-1977. From 1985 to 1995 she served her religious community.

   Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1939 and professed final vows in 1945. She held a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College.

   A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 1 at Marian Woods Chapel in Hartsdale, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
