Sister Mary Siena Cunningham, R.S.M.

Sister Mary Siena Cunningham, R.S.M., who was a nursery school and elementary school teacher, died Aug. 27 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 83.

She taught at Mount Mercy Nursery School in Dobbs Ferry, 1968-1972; Mercy Nursery School, Tarrytown, 1958-1959; and St. Michael’s Home, Staten Island, 1949-1953 and 1964-1968. She also taught in Manhattan at St. Cecilia’s, 1953-1955, and Commander Shea School, 1956-1957, and in the Bronx at Sacred Heart, 1960-1964.

She served at the Susan Devin Residence, the Bronx, 1955-1956; Mercy Community Service, 1972-1988; and as a volunteer at St. Cabrini Nursing Home, 1988-1996.

Born in Yonkers, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952. She held a bachelor’s degree from the School of Education at Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 1 at Marian Woods Chapel, Hartsdale. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
