Sister Mary Thomas Maloney, O.S.U.

Sister Mary Thomas Maloney, O.S.U., who taught in the Bronx, died March 24 at Andrus-on-Hudson. She was 91.

She taught at St. Philip Neri School, 1941-1952; St. Jerome’s, 1953-1964; and St. Angela Merici, 1964-1965.

After that, she was a school principal in Malone, N.Y., and in her later years was a pastoral assistant and reading tutor. She also taught for a year in Wilmington, Del.

Born in Constable, N.Y., she was one of 13 children. She entered the Ursulines in 1937 and professed final vows in 1943. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Fordham University in 1943 and a second degree in elementary education from Fordham in 1961.

She is survived by a brother, Henry. Two of her sisters, both of whom predeceased her, were Ursulines, Sister Priscilla Maloney, O.S.U., and Sister Veronica, O.S.U.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 29 at the Ursuline Province Center in New Rochelle, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
