Sister Mary William Philbin, I.H.M.

Sister Mary William Philbin, I.H.M., who taught at St. Ann School in Nyack, died Dec. 22 at Regional Hospital in Scranton, Pa. She was 75.

Sister Mary William taught at St. Ann for three years ending in 1973.

She also taught in East Rockaway and in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Maryland. She served on the support staff and as a volunteer at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, from 2016 until her death.

Born in Scranton, she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1964 and made final vows in 1972. She held bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in elementary education, from Marywood College in Scranton.

Sister Mary William is survived by three sisters, Judy Digwood, Nancy Laffey and Eileen Hayes, and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 30 at St. Paul Church in Scranton. Burial was at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
