Sister Maureen Fitzpatrick, F.S.P.

Sister Maureen FitzPatrick, F.S.P., who was a director of religious education, a principal and a teacher in the archdiocese, died March 27. She was 86.

She served as director of religious education at St. Patrick’s, Verplanck, 1999-2006; St. Patrick’s, Bedford, 1998-1999; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Shrub Oak, 1990-1998; Sacred Heart, Patterson, 1987-1990; and St. Ann’s, Ossining, 1979-1985.

She served on the faculty and as a campus minister at Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, 1978-1979. She served as director of admissions there, 1964-1968.

She was principal of St. Joseph’s School in Manhattan, 1968-1969. She taught in Manhattan at St. Joseph’s High School, 1956-1959; St. Veronica’s, 1955-1956; and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 1950-1955.

She served her community as assistant provincial superior, 1985-1987.

Born in Weehawken, N.J., she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1945 and professed final vows in 1952.

She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Ladycliff College and a master’s in Spanish and religious education from Fordham University.

She is survived by her brothers Patrick and John.

A Funeral was offered April 2 at Marian Woods in Hartsdale, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
