Sister Maureen Kelly, F.S.P., who taught at several schools in the archdiocese, died July 10 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 84. She taught at St. Teresa’s School in Tarrytown, 1959-1963, and in Manhattan at St. Joseph’s School, 1963-1966 and St. Joseph’s High School, 1964-1966. She was one of 112 founding members of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1986.

She also taught in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Born in New York City, she attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School and Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1953 and made final vows in 1960. She was formerly known as Sister John Agnes.

She retired in 2011 and resided at St. Cabrini Nursing Home since last year. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and English from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, a master’s in history from Hunter College in Manhattan and a master’s in student personnel services and guidance from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. Her brother, John Kelly and her sister, Eileen Giordan, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, survive her. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
