Sister Maureen O’Leary, F.S.P.

Sister Maureen O’Leary, F.S.P., who served as principal of Holy Name of Mary School in Croton-on-Hudson for six years, died Feb. 3 at White Plains Hospital. She was 80.

Sister Maureen was principal of Holy Name of Mary, 1970-1976. She taught at St. Joseph’s School, Peekskill, 1968-1970, and Assumption School, Peekskill, 1961-1965. She was a retreat team member at Graymoor, Garrison, 1980-1984; part-time teacher at Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, 1976-1980; and coordinator at Mount St. Francis, Peekskill, 1976-1980.

Sister Maureen also served in Albany, Buffalo, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before retiring to Marian Woods in Hartsdale in 2010.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1955 and professed final vows in 1962.

She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Ladycliff College; a master’s in education and reading from Manhattan College, the Bronx; and a master’s in theology from Maryknoll School of Theology, Maryknoll.

A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 9 at Marian Woods. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
