Sister Muriel Ratigan, S.H.C.J.

Sister Muriel Ratigan, S.H.C.J., who taught in Manhattan, died Sept. 17 at Holy Child Center in Rosemont, Pa. She was 95.

She taught at St. Walburga’s Academy in Manhattan, 1952-1955. Her other educational assignments were in the Philadelphia area and in Illinois and California. She was the business manager of the American Province of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in Drexel Hill, Pa., 1980-1982, and served on the staff of the society’s generalate in Rome, 1982-1991.

In the 1990s she taught English to adults at a center founded and sponsored by the Holy Child Sisters in North Philadelphia.

Born in New York City, she entered the Holy Child Sisters in 1947 and professed final vows in 1955. She held a bachelor’s degree in math from the College of Mount St. Vincent and a master’s degree in library science from The Catholic University of America. Formerly she was known as Mother St. Agnes.

She is survived by a brother, William. A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 23 at the New Sharon Chapel in Rosemont. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, Pa.
