Sister Nancy Burke, O.P., who was principal of two schools in the archdiocese, died July 28 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 80. She was principal of Annunciation School in Crestwood, 1971-1976, and of St. Mary's School in Newburgh, 1969-1971. She also taught in New Jersey and in Puerto Rico, and at Assumption School in Fairfield, Conn., 1978-2002, when she moved to the Center of Hope in Newburgh. Born in Newton, County Galway, Ireland, she was formerly known as Sister John Margaret. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in 1950 and professed final vows in 1955. She held a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College, Newburgh. Surviving are three brothers, John, Gerard and Joseph, and a sister, Christina Burke. A Funeral Mass was offered July 31 at Dominican Sisters of Hope Center in Newburgh, with burial in the sisters' cemetery there.
