Sister Patricia Mary Walsh, O.P.

Sister Patricia Mary Walsh, O.P., who taught at St. Helena School in the Bronx and St. Agnes Home and School in Sparkill, died Oct. 9 at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. She was 82.

Sister Patricia Mary taught at St. Helena’s, 1972-1976 and 1961-1962. She taught at St. Agnes, 1959-1961. She also taught at Holy Family School in Hicksville, L.I., for 10 years.

She served on staff at Alina Lodge in Hardwick Township, N.J., and eventually became director of its addiction treatment program. In 1983, she began a holistic residential center, Emmaus House in Ocean Grove, N.J., for women religious, providing a house for healing as part of a treatment program. She served as executive director of Emmaus House, 1983-2016.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1957 and made final vows in 1964. She held a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and a master’s in reading from Hofstra University in Hempstead, L.I.

All funeral arrangements were private. Burial was at St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
