Sister Patricia “Pat” Cherry, O.P.

Sister Patricia “Pat” Cherry, O.P., who taught at Our Lady of Refuge School in the Bronx, died Sept. 28 at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, Wis. She was 90.

Sister Pat taught at Our Lady of Refuge, 1968-1975. She served as a nurse aide in Iowa in the 1970s and 1980s, and as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania in the 1980s and 1990s.

She also taught in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Wis., in 1951 and professed final vows in 1957. She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., and an RN from Northeast Iowa Technical College.

Natural burial took place Sept. 30 at the motherhouse cemetery in Sinsinawa. A Memorial Mass was offered Oct. 9 at the motherhouse.
