Sister Phyllis Hinchcliffe, O.S.U., who served at the College of New Rochelle for 33 years, died June 16 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 93.

She was dean of students and instructor at the College of New

Rochelle, 1960-1993. She was a retreat team associate at the Passionist Spirituality Center, the Bronx, 1999-2003; member of the Interreligious Council in the City of New Rochelle, 1996-1999 and 1979-1992; and member of the archdiocesan Committee on

Interreligious and Ecumenical Affairs, 1974-1995. Sister Phyllis taught at Blessed Sacrament, New Rochelle, 1955-1960, and also served in upstate Malone and in the Ursuline Community in various leadership positions.

Born in Yonkers, she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1950 and professed final vows in 1955.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle, and master’s degrees from Fordham University and Princeton

Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J. Burial was June 19 in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled for a later date.
