Sister Regina Anne Melican, O.P.

Sister Regina Anne Melican, O.P., who was a teacher and a librarian in the archdiocese, died July 2 at Siena Hall Infirmary, Dominican Convent, in Sparkill. She was 75. She was director of library services at St. Joseph's Seminary in Dunwoodie from 1990 until 2001. She was then director of Siena Hall Infirmary, 2001-2003. She also was a librarian and teacher at Albertus Magnus High School, Bardonia, 1967-1976 and 1981-1990; and at Rosary Academy, Sparkill, 1976-1981. She taught at Cathedral High School in Manhattan, 1961-1964, and St. Brendan's in the Bronx, 1952-1957. She also taught in the Brooklyn Diocese. Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1951 and professed final vows in 1958. She held a bachelor's degree in education from Fordham University in the Bronx, a master's in library science from St. John's University in Queens, and a master's in religious studies from the Institute of Religious Studies at St. Joseph's Seminary. She is survived by two sisters, Ann and Theresa, and a brother, John. She was predeceased by her brother, Msgr. Francis J. Melican, who was pastor of St. Pius X parish in Scarsdale. A Funeral Mass was offered at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill July 6, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery, also in Sparkill.
