Sister Rita Doyle, P.B.V.M., who taught in Manhattan and Goshen, died July 28 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 96.

From 1965 until her retirement from education in 1992 she taught at St. Michael’s High School in Manhattan, where she had first served from 1943 to 1949. Among other assignments, she taught at St. John’s School and John S. Burke Catholic High School, both in Goshen, 1963-1965.

After retiring from education in 1992, she worked for many years in the finance office at Mount St. Joseph in New Windsor.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1941 and made final vows in 1946. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Cornelia.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College and a master’s in education from Fordham University.

Her sister, Joan Miller, survives her. A Funeral Mass was offered July 31 at Mount St. Joseph in New Windsor. Burial was at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
