Sister Rita Francis Kehir, S.C., who taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel School on Staten Island in the 1940s, died Sept. 26 at Mount St. Vincent Retirement Center in Wellesley Hills, Mass. She was 100.
She taught at the Staten Island school, 1940-1943. She also served in Queens, in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and in Canada.
Born in Dorchester, Mass., she entered the Sisters of Charity-Halifax in 1927 and professed final vows in 1936. She held a bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Vincent College in Nova Scotia.
A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 29 at Mount St. Vincent, with burial in the sisters’ plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham, Mass.
