Sister Roberta McInerney, S.H.C.J.

Sister Roberta McInerney, S.H.C.J., who was a teacher and served in catechetical ministry in the archdiocese, died Feb. 21 at Holy Child Center in Rosemont, Pa. She was 77.

Sister Roberta served in the archdiocese for 20 years. From 1956 to 1960 she taught at St. Elizabeth’s School in Manhattan. In 1967, she returned to the school and taught part-time, while also teaching at the School of the Holy Child in Rye, until 1971. From 1973 to 1988, she trained catechists for parish service on Staten Island.

She also taught in Massachusetts, and Illinois and was a campus minister in Pennsylvania. She was also a director of religious education in New Jersey.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in 1953 and professed final vows in 1961.

She held a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University and a master’s degree in theology from Manhattan College.

She is survived by a sister, Marilyn Billings.

A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 26 in the New Sharon Chapel in Rosemont, Pa., with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, Pa.
