Sister Rose Alma McCarthy, O.P., who taught for 36 years at Lavelle School for the Blind, died March 22 at St. Dominic's Convent in Blauvelt. She was 93. She taught at the Lavelle School, which is in the Bronx, from 1959 to 1995. She then performed support services at St. Dominic's Convent until retiring in 2003. Sister Rose Alma also taught in the Bronx at Holy Spirit School, 1956-1959, and at St. Anselm's School, 1943-1948. She also taught in Rhode Island and in Florida. Born in County Cork, Ireland, she entered the Sisters of St. Dominic in 1933 and professed final vows in 1935. She held a bachelor's degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, R.I., and a master's from Fordham University. A Funeral Mass was offered March 27 at St. Dominic's Convent, with burial in the sistersÕ cemetery in Blauvelt.
