Sister Rose Frederick, S.C., who served at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers for 34 years, died Oct. 28 at St. Patrick’s Home in the Bronx. She was 85.

Sister Rose was at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, 1978-2012, as a social worker and therapist. She also served in the guidance clinic at New York Foundling, Manhattan, 1974-1978.

She was a French teacher at College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, 1969-1972; Cathedral High School, Manhattan, 1966-1969; and Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1960-1966. She was assistant to bursar for the Sisters of Charity, 1960.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1957 and professed final vows in 1965.

The graduate of Cathedral High School earned a bachelor’s degree in French from the College of Mount St. Vincent,; a master’s in French from Fordham University, the Bronx; and a master’s in social work from Hunter College, Manhattan.

Her sister Dr. Marjorie Jones, M.D., survives her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 3 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
