Sister Sarah Landis, I.H.M.

Sister Sarah Landis, I.H.M., who served as a teacher at Immaculate Conception School in the Bronx, died Jan. 17 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 70.

Sister Sarah was at Immaculate Conception, 1975-1976. She also taught at schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She served in college campus ministry in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. She later served in health agencies as a therapist and related positions in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she entered the Sisters of Christian Charity in 1966. In 1977, she transferred to the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She made final vows in 1981.

She held a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Marillac College in St. Louis, and a master’s in theology and a master’s in counseling, both from Marywood College in Scranton.

Sister Sarah is survived by her father, Charles; two brothers, Michael and Charles; and two sisters, Maria Dorton and Catherine Durkin.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 22 at the IHM Center in Scranton. Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa., was to follow.
