Sister Teresa Reeves, O.P., who served as a teacher and principal and also provided counseling services, died March 3 in Siena Hall, Sparkill. She was 81.

She was an elementary and high school teacher and principal in the archdiocese and the Diocese of Brooklyn. She taught at St. Helena’s School, the Bronx, 1953-1955; St. Catherine of Siena, Manhattan, 1955-1958; Aquinas High School, Bronx, 1960-1964 and 1985-1996; and Cathedral High School, Manhattan, 1967-1968.

She taught at St. Mary Magdalen School, Springfield Gardens, Queens, 1958-1960.

She was principal at St. Anthony’s, Nanuet, 1968-1974, and St. Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, 1982-1985.

From 1974 to 1978, she did research work for the Archdiocesan Council of Women Religious and the New York Catholic Center in Manhattan. She was placement director at Dominican Convent, Sparkill, 1978-1982, and family/marriage counselor, 1996-2002, at the Catholic Charities Center in Haverstraw.

Sister Teresa retired in 2003 and became a resident in Siena Hall in 2012.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1951 and professed final vows in 1958. She was formerly known as Sister M. John Teresa.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University; a master’s in Latin from St. John’s University; and a master’s in family counseling from Iona College.

She is survived by her sister, Sister Cecilia Reeves, S.C. A Funeral Mass was offered March 8 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery.
