Sister Theresa D. Luciano, S.C., who taught at St. Mary’s School in Yonkers for 27 years, died Dec. 1 at Schervier Nursing and Rehabilitation in the Bronx. She was 83.

Sister Theresa taught at St. Mary, 1989-2011 and 1971-1976. She taught at Christ the King, Yonkers, 1986-1989; Sacred Heart, Dobbs Ferry, 1982-1986; Blessed Sacrament, the Bronx, 1977-1982; Holy Name, New Rochelle, 1976-1977; St. John the Evangelist, White Plains, 1970-1971; Holy Trinity, Manhattan, 1964-1970; and St. Agatha Home, Nanuet, 1960-1964.

Born in Yonkers, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1957 and professed final vows in 1965.

In observance of her 50th jubilee of religious life, Sister Theresa Luciano Day was declared in Yonkers on Oct. 5, 2007, by Mayor Philip Amicone.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and a master’s at Bank Street College of Education, Manhattan.

Her brother, Richard, survives her.


A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 4 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Yonkers.
