Sister Thomas Golden, R.S.H.M.

Sister Thomas Golden, R.S.H.M., who taught in Manhattan and the Bronx as well as assisting her community though the arts, died March 21 at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown. She was 90.

She was a teacher at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary and Gerard School, both Manhattan, and at Mother Butler Memorial High School, Bronx. She also taught at St. Mary’s, Long Island City, Queens, and Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Sag Harbor. She was a teacher and superior of her community at Marymount School, Richmond, Va.

Sister Thomas taught at Marymount University, Arlington, Va., and at Marymount College, Boca Raton, Fla.

She used her talents as an artist to serve the retired and infirm members of her community for more than 30 years at Marion Center and then at Marymount Convent, both in Tarrytown.

Born in Brooklyn, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1943. She made her final profession in 1959.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Marymount College, Tarrytown, and a master’s in art education from The Catholic University of America.

A Funeral Mass was offered March 25 at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
