Sister Veronica Liegey, S.C., who taught at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx for 25 years, died April 25 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 88.

Sister Veronica taught at Cardinal Spellman, 1971-1996. She served in a ministry to senior citizens at Our Lady of the Assumption parish, the Bronx, 1996-2015.

She also taught at St. Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, 1970-1971; Immaculate Conception School, Manhattan, 1964-1970; St. Francis Xavier, Manhattan, 1963-1964; and Holy Name of Jesus, Manhattan, 1960-1963.

Born in Far Rockaway, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1957 and professed final vows in 1965.

She received a bachelor’s degree in French from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and a master’s in education from Fordham University, the Bronx.

Her sisters, Sister Mary Liegey, S.C., and Sister Christine Liegey, P.B.V.M., and her brothers, Gregory, Hilaire, Michel and Francis, survive her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 29 in St. Margaret of Cortona Church, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
