Sparkill Sisters’ Spotlight

Posted

The Dominican Sisters of Sparkill continue to shine with some wonderful recognitions. Sister Stephen Gerard Miick, O.P., was honored by the Rockland Region Catholic School Association with the St. Dominic Legacy Award (presented by Cardinal Dolan) for her 45-plus year vocation in our Catholic schools, including over 40 years as principal of St. Paul's School in Valley Cottage (Photo on Page 5). Sister continues her ministry by assisting the elderly and infirm living in Sparkill.

Sister Cecilia LaPietra, O.P., was honored by Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia with the Founder's Award for 25 years of service.

Sister Eileen Cunnigham, O.P., and Sister Margaret Palliser, O.P., were inducted into the St. Thomas Aquinas College Alumni Hall of Fame. Both have impressive resumes including many years of teaching at all levels. Sister Margaret is a member of the Sparkill Dominicans’ leadership team. STAC also named a new scholarship in honor of Sister Peggy Scarano, O.P., an alumna and member of its Board of Trustees. She taught and was a principal in the archdiocese. She later raised funds for the Sparkill Dominicans and now works for SOAR (Support Our Aging Religious).

We are so proud of all of these Sisters. Many of us were blessed to be taught by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill and it's wonderful to see them all recognized, as they continue their vocation in Christ's name.
