Speaking Up for Life

Posted

“Silence is golden” is a motto I was taught many years ago while attending parochial school. However, through the years I have learned that silence is not always golden, and in order to defend the truth one must speak out. This is one such case.

Last week, I saw a news broadcast on national television in which Rep. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, was asked the following question: “Do you hate President Trump?” Her response was, “I don’t hate President Trump. I don’t hate anyone. I am a Catholic, and Catholics don’t hate.” While it is commendable that Mrs. Pelosi prays for the president, as we should because of his grave responsibilities, I respectfully would also ask Mrs. Pelosi to pray for an end to abortion, especially since the Catholic Church defends and protects the sanctity of life in all stages, while the Democratic Party supports abortion on demand.

I am a senior citizen of this great nation, and I am a Catholic as well, one who is grateful to a loving God for having blessed me with both. Daily I pray for an end to abortion in our nation, and that freedom of religion and freedom of speech may always reign.

On Dec. 12, the Church celebrates the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn and patroness of the Americas as well. May we all invoke our Mother’s intercession in this time of great need for our country.
