St. John’s University Dinner at Waldorf-Astoria Oct. 27

The 19th annual St. John’s University President’s Dinner will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan on Thursday, Oct. 27, beginning at 6 p.m.

St. John’s president Dr. Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw and his wife, Clavel, will host the event, which benefits the university’s scholarship fund.

This year, the St. John’s Spirit of Service awards will be given to Joseph Tarantino, class of 1980 and president and chief executive officer of Protiviti, along with his wife, Eileen, class of 1980; Brother Alfred Smith, C.M., founder and director of operations at Inn Dwelling; and posthumously to Gerard and Valerie Sodano, both class of 1949. UnitedHealthcare will also be honored. Jeff Alter, class of 1984 and 1988 and chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare, will accept the award.

Bruce Beck, WNBC-TV News 4 New York sports anchor and honorary member of the class of 2009, will serve as master of ceremonies.
