Cardinal Dolan led a first profession ceremony July 10 at St. Teresa’s Motherhouse in Germantown for two Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirm. The nuns are Sister Mary Sharon Rose Carmel Mullin, O. Carm., and Sister Mary Dolores Carmel, O. Carm.
Sister Sharon Rose entered as a postulant in September 2018 and received the Carmelite habit in July 2019. Born in Westchester and raised in Middletown, she holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, and an associate's degree in applied science (nursing) from Orange County Community College. She became a registered nurse in 2018 just before entering religious life.
Sister Dolores Carmel also entered as postulant in September 2018 and received the Carmelite habit in July 2019. Born in Orange, Calif., she holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Fla. Her parents immigrated to the United States from El Salvador after the civil war in the Central American nation. Before joining the Carmelites, she worked as a general manager of doughnut shop chains.
The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm was founded by Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory in 1929 to serve the needs of the elderly in the homes in which the sisters serve. Venerable Mary Angeline was born in Ireland Jan. 21, 1893, and died in Germantown, Jan. 21, 1984, at age 91.
