Two Priests Appointed as Temporary Administrators

Two temporary administrators were appointed to parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office announced.

They are Father Eric Cruz, Holy Spirit, the Bronx, effective May 1, and Father Richard LaMorte, St. Peter’s, Poughkeepsie, effective May 7.

Father Cruz has been the Bronx regional coordinator for archdiocesan Catholic Charities since 2012. He served at St. John Chrysostom as pastor, 2015-2018, and administrator, 2014-2015. He was pastor of Christ the King, the Bronx, 2006-2011; administrator of Our Lady of Victory, the Bronx, 2009-2011; and parochial vicar of St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan, 2003-2006. He was ordained in 2003.

Father LaMorte served as chaplain and director of campus ministry at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, 2000-2016, where he also taught, 1976-1985. He was pastor of Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, 1999-2000; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Poughkeepsie, 1988-1999; and Immaculate Conception, Amenia, 1985-1988. He served as administrator of St. John the Baptist, Poughkeepsie, 1990-1994; chaplain of Pius XII School, Chester, 1973-1976; and parochial vicar of St. Christopher, Red Hook, 1972-1973, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Poughkeepsie, 1966-1972. He was ordained in 1966.
