On Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, the Church celebrates Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish His paschal mystery—His suffering, death and resurrection for the salvation of the world. (3.) The Chrism Mass, which includes the rite of blessing of the oils and the consecration of chrism to be used in parishes this year, was celebrated by the cardinal March 30 at the cathedral. (4.) Hundreds of priests gather in prayer at the Chrism Mass, where they renewed their commitment to clerical service. RESTORATIVE—(5.,6.,7.) Two women follow the program in song and another woman bows her head in prayer during the Three Hours’ Reflection on the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, April 2, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The liturgy included the Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross preached by Brooklyn Auxiliary Bishop James Massa, rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie. (8.,9.) Attendees light each other’s candles during the Easter Vigil celebrated April 3 at Our Lady of Pity Church on Staten Island. Father John Wroblewski, pastor of Our Lady of Pity and St. Anthony of Padua parish, presided over the Mass that included the sacrament of baptism. Father Wroblewski baptizes Sabrina Paupaw. (10.,11.) A crucifix of Christ is held high and the Passion narrative is read during the celebration of the Passion of the Lord on Good Friday, April 2, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Cardinal Dolan presided.
