To ensure the safety of students and faculty, Bridgette R. Mastaglio, MPH, has been appointed by the superintendent of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York as Covid-19 response coordinator.
Ms. Mastaglio will be the primary person responsible for ensuring preparedness and safety of school operations in response to Covid-19, and for managing and implementing responses to Covid-19 infections in Catholic schools.
Ms. Mastaglio will operate under the direction of Michael J. Deegan, the superintendent of schools in the archdiocese. The coordinator will develop and implement all preparedness measures in the schools.
With more than 15 years of experience in health care, Ms. Mastaglio previously was a senior project manager in the department of pathology at Montefiore Medical Center, director of clinical administration for the Child Mind Institute and also worked for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
As Covid-19 response coordinator, Ms. Mastaglio will design and implement evolving Covid-related staff and operational health protocols and procedures, with involvement and input from regional superintendents, and monitor and supervise Covid-19 preparedness and response activities. She will monitor and report presumed and confirmed cases daily and travel to schools to conduct on-site assessment and evaluation of response and safety practices.
“While our schools have opened safely, we continue to look at every precaution possible to ensure our students, teachers, principals and staff remain safe and healthy during this pandemic,” Deegan said. “Key in keeping our schools and the greater community safe will be fidelity to required testing and tracing in the event of a positive diagnosis.
“Bridgette Mastaglio and her team will spearhead that critical task by liaising with the appropriate local health authorities responsible for such protocols. We are grateful to have Bridgette join us.”
