All Catholic elementary schools in the archdiocese will be closed from Monday to Friday, March 16 to 20, “with the possibility of a lengthier closure,” said Michael Deegan, superintendent of schools in the archdiocese.
“Informed by expert health officials, and the Health and Safety Task Force of the Office of Superintendent of Schools, this decision was made out of an abundance of caution. The health and safety of our students, staff and families is of the utmost importance,” Deegan said March 12.
The press release said that “the situation surrounding coronavirus…is rapidly changing and we are closely following the advice of city, state and federal health officials.”
It also said all CYO and CHSAA activities, sporting events and practices have been canceled indefinitely. This includes CHSAA intersectional and state tournament boys' and girls' basketball games as well as the CYO basketball, cheerleading and indoor track and field championships.
