Father Joseph B. Arsenault, M.M., who served as editor and publisher of the Maryknoll News newspaper, died Dec. 2 at the assisted living center at Maryknoll, Ossining. He was 90.

Father Arsenault served at the newspaper from 1987 into his post-retirement years. He pioneered the desktop publishing system.

He served abroad in administrative mission work and parish ministry, mainly in Peru. His service included organizing CCD programs.

He also was a chaplain at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Sleepy Hollow.

In 2001, he was instrumental in starting an ethno music collection for Maryknoll’s archives, beginning with his own collection of Quechua worship songs recorded while in Peru. He was a member of the World Flute Society. He was recognized for his music ministry in Peru and with Native American flute music in the United States.

Born in Newton, Mass., he entered Maryknoll in 1949 and was ordained to the priesthood for Maryknoll in 1959.

Father Arsenault is survived by two sisters, Janet Dailey and Rita Quinn, and two brothers, Stephen and Theodore, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 7 at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll Society Center. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
