Father Salvatore Bonaventure Matarazzo, O.P.

Father Salvatore Bonaventure Matarazzo, O.P., who served as pastor of two parishes in the archdiocese, died Oct. 22 at Nazareth Home in Louisville, Ky. He was 90.

In 1987, Father Matarazzo was assigned to St. Vincent Ferrer parish in Manhattan, serving first as administrator and then as pastor. He also served as subprior and prior of the Dominican community. In 1995, he was appointed superior and pastor at Holy Name of Jesus parish, Valhalla. Father Matarazzo returned to St. Vincent Ferrer in 2010.

In the archdiocese, he also served at Holy Innocents parish, Pleasantville, 1963-1978, and later served at Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, for a year.

He also served in Kentucky, New Jersey, Buffalo and Elmira.

Born in Syracuse, he entered the Dominican novitiate in 1953. He studied theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. He professed final vows in 1957 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1960.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Hennen.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct 25 at St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville, Ky. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Louisville.
