Government Policies

Posted

The article in your April 7 issue fails to note that the policy to “attempt to erase (the) culture” of indigenous peoples was that of the Canadian government. Catholic institutions that operated residential homes and orphanages were contracted by the Canadian government to care for and school indigenous children because these institutions had the facilities in place. Today, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), including Catholic Charities, are contracted by the U.S. government for different reasons, such as to assist current government policies by caring for immigrants in the crisis at our southern border.
