Dominican Sisters of Hope

75 Years 

Sister Geraldine Schultz, O.P., taught at St. Ursula School, Mount Vernon, 1962-1967. She also served in New Jersey, Florida and North Carolina. She lives at St. Marys Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, N.J.  

60 Years

Sister Margaret Anderson, O.P., taught at Our Lady of Victory School, Mount Vernon, 1966-1970; St. Patrick School, Newburgh, 1970-1972; and Guardian Angel School, Manhattan, 1972-1978. She was principal at St. Barnabas School, the Bronx, 1986-1989; and at Ascension School, Manhattan, 1989-1990. She was a social worker with ADAPP, New York City, 1991-1999; member of the leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 1999-2003; and director of guidance at the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel, White Plains, 2005. In 2014, she was elected to the leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of Hope. She also served in New Jersey. 

Sister Ann Daniel Belmonte, O.P., taught at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, Newburgh, 1965-1968 and 1972-1973; St. Augustine School, Larchmont, 1968-1972; St. Ursula School, Mount Vernon, 1973-1977; and St. Mary School, Poughkeepsie, 1977-1979.  She also served in Virginia and West Virginia. 

Sister Anne Marie Bucher, O.P., was a home health aide with the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service, Ossining, 1962-1967; a nurse with the Dominican Sisters Home Health Agency, the Bronx, 1969-1974; vocation director for the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, Ossining, 1981-1987, and associate membership director, 1983-1995; and coordinator for the combined formation program of Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor and Newburgh Dominicans, 1987-1991. She was a nurse with the Little Sisters of the Assumption, Manhattan, 1989-1998; a mission unit leader with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, 1992-1995; and did HIV advocacy, 1991-1998. From 1999 to 2005, she was a public health nurse at Calvary Hospital, the Bronx. In 2000, she began working at Mary Manning Walsh Home, Manhattan, and has continued as a massage therapist. Since 2005, she has served the congregation as health care consultant.

Sister Mary Ann Cirillo, O.P., was engaged in clerical services for the Newburgh Dominicans, 1965-1967; and taught at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, Newburgh, 1967-1968; and SS. John and Paul School, Larchmont, 1968-1969. She also served in New Jersey and Oklahoma. She now resides in Mount Vernon. 

Sister Nancy Erts, O.P., taught at St. Thomas School, Cornwall, 1966-1967; and St. Ursula, Mount Vernon, 1973-1976. She was formation director for the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, 1983-1987. She also did retreat work at Linwood Spiritual Center, Rhinebeck; and has been on the retreat staff of Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center, Ossining, since 2004. Sister Nancy has been involved in environmental endeavors focused in the Hudson Valley. In March 2001, she was a delegate to Iraq for Voices of Veritas. She also served in Suffolk County, North Carolina, Missouri and New Jersey. She resides in Croton-on-Hudson. 

Sister Margaret Foster, O.P., worked in the Mount St. Mary Infirmary, Newburgh, 1966-1967. She taught at St. Mary School, Poughkeepsie, 1967-1970. She now volunteers as a literacy volunteer, teaching English as a second language to adults, and has tutored new immigrants from Turkey, Egypt and South Korea. She also served in New Jersey. 

Sister Dorothy Gensur, O.P., taught at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, Newburgh, 1962-1963 and 1973-1974; St. Mary, Newburgh, 1964-1967; St. Thomas, Cornwall, 1967-1972; and St. Augustine, Larchmont, 1972-1973. She also served in Connecticut, New Jersey and Puerto Rico. She retired in 2013.

Sister Mary Cecilia Murray, O.P., taught at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, Newburgh, 1962-1963 and 1964-1965; Holy Rosary School, Hawthorne, 1965-1966; Marist College, Poughkeepsie, 1996-2007; and Mount St. Mary College, Newburgh, 1966-1979, 1990-1991 and 1998-present. She tutored in the HEOP program at Mount St. Mary College, 1994-2000; and worked in the Greenhaven Prison Program at Marist College in 1995. Sister Mary was historian for the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, 1989-1993; and was invited to join the national Dominican history team as researcher and writer, 1992-present. She also served in Connecticut. 

Sister Marianne Watts, O.P., taught at Bishop Dunn Memorial School,  Newburgh, 1962-1963 and 1964-1966; and Mount St. Mary Academy,  Newburgh, 1969-1972. Sister Marianne was regional coordinator of DARE in the Archdiocese of New York, 1983-1987; training program administrator for the National Council on Alcoholism, White Plains, 1987-1993; and founder and administrator of Maxtrain, an alcoholism counselor training program at The Maxwell Institute, Tuckahoe. She was also office manager for the Dominican Sisters of Hope Ministry Trust. She also served in New Jersey, Connecticut and North Carolina. Since 2009, Sister Marianne has been a resident of Asbury Park, N.J., and has written blog posts for the Dominican Sisters of Hope website.

Redemptoristine Nuns

60 Years

Sister Maria Paz Suarez, O.Ss.R., was born in the Philippines and was professed 1962 as a Redemptoristine Nun in Ontario after meeting the Redemptorists in Thailand. She transferred to Esopus in 1975. During her 60 years, she made capes and robes for the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre and Malta and has an active ministry corresponding with Redemptorists and lay people alike.
